Oil and Water Don’t Mix
4 Jul 2010
How about some good ‘ol fashioned all-American jazz for a great cause on the 4th of July? Like so many of you, I view the images of oil-drenched wildlife and idle fishing boats in the Gulf through tears. It’s the 4th of July and so many folks are doing their part to help the efforts to clean up the mess.
You gotta love rapper, Mos Def, Lenny Kravitz, the Preservation Hall Band, Trombone Shorty, and Tim Robbins for teaming up to record It Ain’t My Fault to benefit Gulf Aid, a nonprofit created in response to the oil spill off the Louisiana Coast.

Leave it to musicians to donate their time for a good cause. Thanks Ronnie for publicizing this effort. When you have talent like these guys do, it’s no wonder they can come up with a great new tune in just 12 hours.
I agree with their basic premise, “It Ain’t My Fault.” Direct fault belongs to BP and the federal agencies that failed to provide solid regulation of the industry. But when you think about it, we’re all part of this mess because indirectly, we all depend on oil and demand it from the oil companies every time we fill our gas tanks, go on-line to read this using electricity from oil fired power plants on computers filled with petrochemicals, and on and on. If we all started to take some responsibility for the spill, as well as climate change, then maybe we have a chance to get away from our dependence on a finite resource.

Thanks, Joe for your thoughtful comment. I have to agree with you – we’re all to blame for our dependency on oil and we’ll need to adjust accordingly if we don’t want more Gulf-type tragedies to occur.
These musicians are playing their hearts out for the cause and we can be thankful for that!
